Philly soul

Philly soul, also known as Philadelphia soul or The Sound of Philadelphia (TSOP), is a soul music genre from the late 1960s to the 1970s characterized by lush string and horn arrangements and funk influences. It combines R&B rhythm sections with pop vocal traditions and jazz-influenced melodic structures, laying the groundwork for disco. The genre is known for its smooth, sweet sound, often produced at Sigma Sound Studios, and includes ballads that prefigured the smooth soul subgenre. Later productions incorporated more funk elements.
