P-Funk is a distinctive sub-style of Funk developed in the mid-1970s by George Clinton and his collaborators from Parliament and Funkadelic. It features a "fat," monotonic drum sound, spaced-out synthesizers, thumping basslines, tight, syncopated horn sections, and sometimes heavy guitars. This sound has been adopted by spin-off bands like Bootsy's Rubber Band and Mutiny. P-Funk has been extensively sampled by hip-hop artists since the late 1980s. The Parliament-Funkadelic collective is known for its eclectic style, drawing on psychedelia, outlandish fashion, and surreal humor.
