Miami Bass

Miami bass, also known as booty music or booty bass, is a dance-oriented subgenre of hip hop that originated in Miami during the mid to late 1980s. It is characterized by the use of Roland TR-808 kick drums, faster tempos, heavy bass, and often sexually explicit lyrics. The genre also has a distinct electro influence. Notable for its rhythmic "stop-start" flavor and "hissy" cymbals, Miami bass reflected the language and culture of Miami's black neighborhoods such as Liberty City, Goulds, and Overtown. While it never achieved consistent mainstream acceptance, it had a significant impact on hip hop, dance music, and pop.
