Latin hip hop, also known as Latin rap, is a subgenre of hip hop music performed by artists of Hispanic and Latino descent in the United States, as well as in Spanish-speaking countries across the Caribbean, North America, Central America, South America, and Spain. The genre is characterized by the use of Spanish language and incorporates elements of Hispanic American music, including Latin pop samples and indigenous Latin American instrumentation. It also features diverse regional accents, adding to the genre's unique sound. The Mean Machine, a New York-based Puerto Rican crew, were pioneers in this genre with their single "Disco Dream."
