Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong backbeat (groove), electrified sounds, and early use of analog synthesizers. It blends elements of funk, soul, and R&B into jazz, resulting in a wide-ranging genre from strong jazz improvisation to soul, funk, or disco with jazz arrangements. The genre was popular in America during the 1970s and early 1980s and also had a notable club presence in England in the mid-1970s. Jazz-funk differs from soul jazz and jazz fusion but shares some similarities.
