Grime

Grime is a genre of electronic dance music that emerged in London in the early 2000s. Developing from UK garage, specifically 2-step, it also draws influences from jungle, drum and bass, dancehall, and hip hop. Characterized by rapid, syncopated breakbeats around 140 BPM, grime often features aggressive, jagged electronic sounds. Emceeing is a significant element, with lyrics typically focusing on urban life, crime, social issues, and conflicts between MCs. Although vocals are crucial, a considerable portion of grime remains instrumental-focused, particularly in later developments.
