It emerged in the late 1990s and early 2000s, characterized by its use of mechanical and metallic percussion sounds and glitchy effects like cutting, skipping, repeating, and bit-crushing samples. The genre typically features mid-tempo beats (80-130 BPM), with modern tracks often around 110-115 BPM. Glitch hop is known for its strong swing feel and digitally processed sounds, including distorted vocals and intentional sound degradation. Despite its name, it has little connection to the broader genre of glitch music and incorporates influences from various styles such as lo-fi, hip hop, trap, dubstep, and downtempo.
