Disco

Disco is a dance music genre and subculture that emerged in the late 1960s in the US urban nightlife scene. It features four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, brass, electric piano, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars. Originating from venues popular among African-Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, gay Americans, and Italian Americans, it gained prominence in Philadelphia and New York City in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Disco was a reaction to the dominance of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music. Dance styles such as "the Bump", "the Hustle", and "the Busstop" were developed during the 1970s disco era in the US.
